Elastic insoles with dielectric elastomer sensors.

By recording the gait and the maximum load after knee or hip surgery, shoe insoles with pressure sensors can significantly support the therapy.

The soft and thin pressure sensors based on dielectric elastomers are integrated into elastic shoe insoles at three points (heel and ball of the foot). The aim of the development is to produce robust and very cost-effective (orthopedic) insoles with a minimum number of sensors in order to be able to give them to patients during their rehabilitation phase.

The data can be sent wirelessly to a smartphone to warn the user of current overloads and to use long-term data telemedically.
